About d'Arenberg

The Stump Jump Red

A lovely bright red in appearance with a lovely aromatic nose of ripe juicy red fruits, dominated with cranberries and loganberries, spice, cardamom, green pepper and an earthy herbal note coming through. The palate is fruity, rich and ripe and loaded with mulberries, plums, white chocolate and spices which are balanced with ripe tannins. The finish is lovely and soft with a surprising length of flavour balanced with savoury edges and lively acidity.

The Stump Jump White

A wonderful fresh vibrant appearance with an equally appealing aroma. Notes of florals, cut grass and limes are obvious but as the wine opens up, more complex secondary notes appear such as green melon rind, passionfruit, lavender, wheat germ, and almond kernel characters.

The Dry Dam

The Dry Dam has a very pale appearance permeated with green tints. Jubilant florals jump out of the glass with a note of citrus blossom and peel. Then spices, green apple, rose petals and fresh cut flower stems. As the wine opens up mineral notes from the soil become more obvious. The palate is youthful, elegantly framed with excellent early-picked flavour ripeness and concentration. It is dominated by green apple, grapefruit, green melon rind and lime juice with tropical fruit characters coming through. The finish is extremely long and very dry .

The Hermit Crab

A very pale watery appearance with tints of green and yellow suggesting a fresh young wine with little influence of oak. The aromatics are tight and controlled but show an array of fresh fruit notes from runner beans and green tropical fruits to mango pip/ melon rind. As the wine opens up further a mixture of apple and citrus tones appears with notes of nectarine stone.

The Broken Fishplate

A very clear opaque appearance with a concentrated, lifted, perfumed aroma of fresh cut flower stems, pear drops, cut grass and passionfruit skins. As the wine opens further, fragrant notes of tropical fruits, gooseberry, asparagus spears, green melon rind, dried blackcurrant leaves and tangello peal emerge. The palate is very elegant; fruity, dry and beautifully balanced with an abundant depth and concentration of fruit. The fine elevated acidity gives the wine so much shape.

The Footbolt

A dark, exciting looking wine with a cherry red hue. Initially dominated by roasted plum and cherry notes. Elements of spice, spearmint and smoke are quite elegant and refined which suggest a cooler year. As the wine opens up, there is strong emphasis on red fruits such as Satsuma plums, cranberries, mulberry and cherries mixed with characters of carob and a savoury edge similar to cut flower stems.

d'Arry's Original

When poured the wine displays a bright dark plum colour with a dark brick-red hue. The aroma immediately suggests a cooler year due to its level of intensity and spicy edges. The savoury mineral aromas and tighter-than-normal palate structure also indicates a cool year. The fruit characters are distinctively d’Arenberg; very red with a savoury spiced plumy fruit character, mulberry, prunes mixed with dark, tarry chocolate notes. As the wine breathes, a punchy array of cranberry, Satsuma plum, fragrant red berry notes and hints of spiced Grenache appear, The wine further develops with liquorish and a potpourri, earthy meaty element with edges of mineral herbaceous notes.

The Cadenzia

This wine is dominated by an amazing fragrance of dark rich aromas such as blueberries, plums and cardamoms with a back ground of kirsch and dark-spiced fruit notes. As the wine opens, a developing mix of red berries, prune notes, spice and anise evolve giving the wine a depth which isn’t initially apparent. The palate is full bodied and silky smooth. Flavours are dominated by cranberries, mulberries and blueberries and then levels of dried fruit and herbs intertwine.
